Newness of life

If you have read and understood our article Battle of the mind : Flesh vs Spirit then this is a continuance of that subject about life in the Spirit and more specifically freedom from the flesh. Lets look at Romans 6:4;

“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death (sinful nature, flesh, carnal mind) that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Now let's look at the word ‘therefore’ which is pointing us back to a statement, so let's go back to the verses before that in Romans 6:1:-3;

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?”

So we as born again Christians are dead to sin and we should recognise that awesome truth. But many are still in bondage to the problems regarding the flesh and its habits. But Praise the Lord, Gods Word and the Holy Spirit will set you free from all this. As an example, if you have a habit like smoking, some can get free from it, by will power or by some other means. Like all other means of this world which as Christians we know we are in but not of the world they are all temporary fixes, which I experienced myself a long time ago. Now the big question is if I can’t get free then it is a stronghold, which means its time to be set free. You see once you acknowledge it’s a stronghold then you have the victory in Jesus name. We are told to walk in newness of life. Now brothers and sisters, I know you will all agree that God would not tell us we cannot do something if we couldn't do agree. Well this is where freedom comes. I'm going to put some verses together to give you the way forward.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Now we know that this is talking about your born again spirit, which is new, the old dead one has gone. This is also talking about the habits of the flesh, like an alcoholic, he has now been set free.

God tells us in the following verses we can now put on this new man;

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” Romans 13:12

“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” Romans 13:14

“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Galatians 3:27

“and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:24

“and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,” Colossians 3:10

So we can see God is telling us that WE can, if not He would not tell us to.

We are also told;

“Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,” Colossians 3:9

“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.” Colossians 3:8

So it's a bit like getting undressed and dressed, off and on. Now this is a truth, and it is going to set you free. You see God has given us the power to manifest what His grace has already done. Ready to put your faith to work? Well YOU have it God tells you that you have. So tell your flesh to shut up, it's time to be free, take these chapters and verses, and speak them out of your mouth. Then say Father, thank you for Your Word, thank you that I'm free, thank you Holy Spirit that, I'm dead to (whatever your stronghold is smoking etc) as You are the Law of the Spirit of grace to set me free from (name it) as it is of death and I am of the life. Thank you Lord that you quicken my mortal body by your Holy Spirit that dwelleth in me in Jesus name amen.

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:11)

Brothers and sisters, satan and his imps are under your control, under your feet! (Ephesians 1:22-23). Rejoice that you have been redeemed by the Blood of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:7, 1 Corinthians 1:3) and enjoy your freedom in Christ Jesus to His Praise and Glory thank you Lord amen.
