Greetings brothers and sisters, as always let’s pray.
Father open my eyes of my understanding, help me direct my imagination to see the hope of your calling, help me know the exceeding greatness of your power, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, and the riches of the glory of your inheritance that's in me, also Father that you reveal Christ in me the hope of all glory, thank you in Jesus name amen (Ephesians 1:17-19, Colossians 1:27).
In this article we are going to look at righteousness and holiness, and the importance that these play in our everyday life and in our walk with God. Let’s read about Abraham in Romans 4:3, “For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness” (equity of character or act, justification acquitted by which God acquits men of their guilt). This was the case for Abraham and many others in the Old Testament because they believed in God, and their sacrifices for their sins and Hebrews chapter 8:9-10 gives us an great insight to these truths.
Now there are rewards to living righteously. Let's take a look at some that labour to live a holy and righteous life as we are guaranteed a completely new and fulfilled life in Christ. We also enjoy Gods presence continually.
Sin brings a curse, sin is unrighteousness. Righteousness brings blessing - Proverbs 14:34;
“Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.”
Righteousness is usually in place wherever you see Gods blessings, while the wages of sin is death, the wages of righteousness is a life more abundant. Righteous living brings prosperity, promotions, honour – Psalm 112:1-3;
“Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.”
Psalm 92:10-14; “But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil. My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; My ears hear my desire on the wicked Who rise up against me. The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,”
Let's look at Job.
“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.” Job 1:1-3
Righteousness was the reason for the height Job attained, Evil must die in anyone's life, so the glory that God has mapped out for you will come out. Job became the greatest man in the land not through crookedness or perverseness, but through uprightness and godly perfection. He was scared of evil, he never touched it. Righteousness announces promotions for the righteous. Who is righteous? Whosoever does righteousness is righteous.
Joseph fled from sin. But his trouble became his triumph, as the prison yard became his palace, even in the prison he prospered. Look at Daniel, the Kings rich food would have defiled Daniel and made him remain a mere civil servant in that country, but righteousness exalted him. He wouldn't deny His God, No, not even in the face of death. He walked gallantly into the den of lions, and righteousness preserved him (Proverbs 11:3). He ended up in the high places of the government of his time.
Honour has it root in righteousness
In Daniel 12:3; “Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.”
Righteousness causes men to shine as stars, if you truly desire honour, then wisdom demands that you also desire righteousness with a greater intensity. Let your desire be for righteousness be far more than your desire for honour, for when righteousness is in place, then honour is automatic. God stood by all who stood for Him in the Scriptures. Every accomplishment in the Kingdom is borne of a desire, the lack of desire for righteousness is the reason for the captivity of sin. Where there is no desire there's no accomplishment (Mark 11:24). The eyes of the Lord run to and from throughout all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of anyone whose heart is perfect towards Him.
Now there are many other places in the living Word that reveal all those that walked lived in righteousness, have a look for yourself (Gen 41:38-44). So now you can see how God expects us all to be living, and there is no reason why this should not be so, because it is a truth right now. It's a gift,
“Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s (Jesus Christ’s) righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.” Romans 5:18
God now sees us as righteous because of what Jesus accomplished for us on the Cross and His resurrection, Jesus took us with Him look at Matthew 3:15;
“And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer(leave, forgive, forsake, let alone)it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.”
Jesus brought us into His righteousness as he was sinless;
“to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” Romans 3:26.
See Gods grace has supplied all things to us by Christ Jesus. Brothers and sisters, God has a will written to us all, its the Holy Bible. God is faithful to his word and we comply with the Holy Spirit in what's already been done in the kingdom of light. The ministry of the Holy Spirit will complete His will in our life so get rid of that sin, and….
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
Brothers and sisters, our Lord would not tell us to do something we could not do. All these things shall be added to us and much much more as we can see in the living word. Righteousness is doing things Gods way and not ours and the Holy Spirit is all we need. We are now servants of righteousness;
“And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.” Romans 6:18
“And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin (dead at the cross), but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” Romans 8:10
So let's submit ourselves unto righteousness of God (Romans 10:3, Romans 14:17). We have it all brothers and sisters, we are new creatures in Christ Jesus.
“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.” 1 Corinthians 1:30
If you are in sin then God tells us; “Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.” 1 Corinthians 15:34
God will increase our fruits of righteousness (2 Corinthians 9:10, Philippians 1:11). So put your faith to work and remember faith without works is dead. Read it out and invite the Holy Spirit to fulfill his ministry and He will (Philippians 3:9). God is telling us we can;
“But you, O man of God, flee these things (verses 9-10) and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness” 1 Timothy 6:11
“Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” 2 Timothy 2:22
Look at the end result brothers and sisters, “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” 2 Timothy 4:8
So let's put on this new man (Colossians 3:10), so that all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord (2 Corinthians3:18). The Lord who is the Spirit makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image, which is already a reality in our born again spirits (1peter 1:23).
“and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” Ephesians 4:24
Purity. (John 17:11-23)
“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” 1 Corinthians 6:17
Enjoy your walk in righteousness and holiness brothers and sisters, we are blessed and God has already done his part (Grace), our part is faith and even that He has given us. It’s awesome news, therefore;
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)
“But in every nation whoever fears (this fear means respect) Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him” Acts 10:35
There is no room for excuses because anything that's not of righteousness is unrighteousness and in sin and of the kingdom of darkness of this world;
“and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?”Acts 13:10
And it will keep your faith from working, because if you don't see yourself just (clean, justified, not guilty) then your faith won't grow.
“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17
“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference” Romans 3:22
Look again at the benefits;
“That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life (fellowship and walking with God) by Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:21
It's your new nature in your spirit, and as you renew your mind the Holy Spirit will bring it to pass (Romans 8:4, 10) so submit yourself unto righteousness ( Romans 10:3) and see where you are in the kingdom of God,
“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” Romans 10:4
“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10
“For the Kingdom of God is not in meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17.
How blessed we are. God has made this all possible for us so let's take advantage of it,
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification (holiness, purifier, purity), and redemption (salvation, deliverance)” 1 Corinthians 1:30
So you are righteous;
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
I hope and pray you are not law minded, as we are told in Philippians 3:9;
“And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that (you are a new creature in Christ) which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith”
As I said before, God would not tell us we could do something in His Word if we couldn't, therefore;
“But you, O man of God, flee these things (noted in verses 9-10) and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness” 1 Timothy 6:11
Let's have the same mind as Christ because as we know we have the mind of Christ
“Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity (unrighteousness ); therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” Hebrews 1:9
What a blessing brothers and sisters to see who you are and how God sees you as righteous. Let's
“Fight the good fight of faith, (as we have already the victory in Christ Jesus - satan is finished), lay hold on eternal life (relationship with our Heavenly Father in the kingdom of Light), to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12
All Praise and Glory to our King of Kings and Lord of Lords Christ Jesus amen.
