The Bible is our spiritual mirror

We all use mirrors in life, they help us to see what we can’t see ourselves. Whether it’s one we look at in the morning to evaluate our appearance or one we look at in a car when we need to check around us while driving.

Well as Christians the Bible is like a mirror to us - A spiritual mirror. God gives us the spiritual mirror of His Word so that we can truly see who we are and how He sees us. He tells us that we are created in His image (Genesis 2:7), He redeemed us through His Son Jesus (John 3:16), and He made us heirs with Christ of His eternal kingdom (Romans 8:17). He assures us that we are forgiven (1 John 1:9), that He loves us (1 John 4:19) and that we are a new creation in Him,

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

If we look at this verse in particular the word “therefore” refers us back to verses 14-16 where Paul tells us that as believers we have died with Christ and we no longer live for ourselves. Our lives are no longer worldly but they are now spiritual.

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” John 4:24 As we can see from this verse we communicate with God spirit to spirit and to develop a relationship and to get to know Him we must get His Word inside of us. In James we are told to “receive with meekness the implanted word which is able to save your souls” James 1:21

James also gives us some practical ways to reflect on the Word of God in James 1:25 below, “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does” Here he is telling us; To focus our attention on the Word of God - “looks into” To meditate on it - “and continues in it” Memorise it - “not forgetting what they have heard” And act upon it by living out the instructions - “and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work” In our article who am I in Christ? we have picked out many verses which describe who you are in your new life in Christ and how God sees you. These are good verses to meditate on and memorise whenever and wherever you are to remind you of your new identity in Christ. Look into your spiritual mirror by reading God’s Word and become rooted, grounded and established in the Word of God by giving God's Word first place in your life today! (Colossians 1:23, Psalm 112)
